Just a soaker

This is the last wool soaker that I sewed.  I believe it was a small.  Since the wool blend interlock was so stretchy, I made the waistband smaller so that it would stay on better.  I would have put up some modeling shots, but at the time I made this one, I didn't have anyone small enough to wear it.  I sold it.  I hope the recipient enjoyed it.  It was some nice, thick wool.

So, so cute! I am actually working with your pattern and have a question--how would you go about adjusting the size of the thighs? I've been trying to figure it out and driving myself crazy! My daughter is a large long, but she's got such chunky thighs, I need them to be the size of the XL. I'd love your help--thanks in advance! Jaclyn

The large leg openings might accomodate the XL cuffs. If so, you could just use those with the large long body. Otherwise, I would suggest sewing the body together and then enlarging the leg openings by cutting them a little higher on the hips or a little towards the crotch (making the crotch a little narrower).

Thank you so much! I was toying with that idea, but I wasn't sure if it was going to work--thanks again!

Great soaker, I've been staring at my sewing machine for about two years, I don't really know how to work it, but if I can get over that, my question is about 97/3 wool, should I double it up. or is one layer ok, do i need to prep in any way first?

I've had good luck with a single layer of 97/3 wool/lycra interlock. I prewash/shrink mine. It felts to a point, and then it doesn't felt anymore. You can always add an extra layer in the wetzone if your wool seems thin. Nature's Fabrics has good info and instructions on prepping wool interlock.

Hi Katrina, I'm brand new to cloth diapering and want to sew up a few covers from your pattern to be ready for baby due any day now, but have a couple questions hoping for best success... first, what is meant by "large LONG"? Is there something I'm missing on the pattern I printed? I just see NB, Small, Medium, Large, and XL.
Second, where in the world can I purchase wool interlock like you made the soaker from? Do you buy it from NaturesFabrics that you mentioned here and pay $26 a yard? It sounds painful, but I understand from searching and searching that it may be the best option there is. Thanks for any help you might offer. Stephanie

The "long" version of any size is just that size with the rise of the next size up. Here are some instructions on how to alter the rise. http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/2008/02/altering-pattern-for-longer-rise.html

Yes, I bought my wool/lycra blend interlock from Nature's Fabrics. You can get more than one soaker from a yard. Most soakers made from wool interlock cost as much as one yard of the fabric.
