Side-Snapping Soaker Pattern

So, you've been waiting over a year for a pattern for the side-snapping soaker.  Well, here is a testing pattern.  I have not gotten a chance to sew one from it yet, and so I do not have a picture tutorial yet.  I will hopefully get that done this week.

The one shown is the one I made last year and was done with PUL and fleece.  For that kind, I suggest sizing up on the body of the soaker but keeping the waistband and leg cuffs the size you actually need.

**Directions:

Cut out the soaker pattern you need.

Fold the edges (formerly the side seams) in one inch in the front, and 7/8" in the back.  The wrong sides should be together when you do this so that you have a neat looking front.  Stitch these down.

Fold the short edges of you waistband pieces in 1/2" with wrong sides together.  Stitch these down.  Then fold the long sides together (wrong sides together) and stitch the raw edges together with the raw edges of the soaker body, stretching the waistband to fit along the soaker.  Do the same with your leg cuffs.

Once all of the pieces of your soaker are together, center your snaps in the waistband at the edge, center them in the leg cuffs at the edge, and center them in the sides of the soaker.

Do you like the patterns? Feel free to make a small donation.

Thanks for posting this! I was just thinking yesterday that it would be nice to have side snaps when blow outs happen and went online to check if anyone had modified your pattern for snaps and I find this! So happy :D What seam allowance does this have?

It still has a 1/4 inch seam allowance. I plan on getting a picture tutorial done next week. That should help me make any necessary adjustments. I hope this works for you.

Also thank you so much for posting these patterns. I am a new mom to a 14 week old baby girl and new to everything including sewing and really want to do a few of these with some old sweaters... We are trying cloth :) I'm having issues downloading the patterns from the website... Would you mind emailing them to me.... I understand if you don't have time to do so but if you do I would really appreciate it :) my email is pgrullons21@gmail.com thanks :)

How do I find the measurements of the waistband in front and back?.... it looks like the front is a lot shorter in length then the back....

Do you have the weight range for every size?

I do not have a weight range for every size. I have a guess, but I did not get a lot of response when I sent out a poll.Based on the limited data I collected, this is my best guess at sizes based on weight. If you are making a soaker for a baby you cannot measure, these may help. Otherwise, it is much better to take a baby's measurements in order to determine the correct size soaker.

NB: 5-8 lbs
Small: 9-12 lbs
Medium: 13-18 lbs
Large: 19-25 lbs
Extra Large: 26-32 lbs

For leaner babies, you might go with a smaller size and a longer rise (e.g., Medium Long instead of Large).

I make items for babies in the NICU, this would be great as some babies can't have pull on diaper covers. I wonder how to make it fit a preemie. Also is that a band that goes on top at the waste?
Thanks for your answers.

Yes, that is a waistband at the top. You could probably print these with a 10%-20% reduction, but I have not attempted that.
